Pepper
Realist • Bashful • Dependable
We are all broken, that's how the light gets in. - Ernest Hemingway
Female Shepherd Mix
Pepper always seems just a little unsteady on her feet. While shy, she gets excited easily (although she tends to bottle it up when around strangers) and if around friends, she's prone to going off on a tangent that is difficult to pull her back from. In all honestly, she's probably the reason that her and Nikita haven't failed in their ventures already, being the calmer and more level-headed one - not being prone to fighting dogs double her size over minor slights like her more rambunctious cousin. That's not to say that she doesn't go along with many of Nikita's harebrained schemes because she does - sometimes they're even her own harebrained schemes that they're following. She's quiet and thoughtful ... and while she doesn't like to be the center of attention, she enjoys a mellow party where she can listen to good music and have smaller, more personal interactions with others (but not too small a party that she might have too much attention focused on herself). She tends to see things in a realist sort of way - seeing things as they are and making unbiased judgements rather than viewing them through any sort of negative or positive filter.

- She's been known to babble when she's nervous, usually resulting in her trailing off awkwardly mid-sentence.
- She loves the colder weather and being able to bundle up. At times she'll even bundle up in the summer ... she usually end up regretting this.
- Firmly believes that there is a perfect size to a party - too small and there is too much attention on each person; too big and it's complete, overwhelming chaos.

her Story
Pepper has never hated her parents - most times when she thinks of them, she just feels sad. She remembers seeing pictures of them and they looked happy, and she can vaguely recall memories of all of them being happy together but time has a way of breaking things and her parents were no exception. They were unhappy and took that unhappiness out on each other, blaming the other for every wrong under the sun ... and after awhile, they began to blame her as well. She figured that it was for being born since as many nights as she spent wondering, she never really could figure out what she did wrong.
It was only when things got real bad - bad enough to leave her with a broken leg - that her aunt and uncle stepped in, taking care of the problem in their own way. Police were paid off to keep quiet (not wanting this to destroy the family reputation) and her parents were sent somewhere distant to tend to the company from there ... as for her, she went to stay with her aunt and uncle as well as the daughter they had who was her own age. The two girls hit it off instantly, many joking that they were like twins. Perhaps she would have hit it off with her aunt and uncle as well, had they been around for more than a week or two at a time. The two young girls were sent to boarding schools, summer camps, and left home with the help more often than they had any parental guidance.
Nikita quickly took on the role of leader, leaving Pepper to follow along. It was an arrangement that suited them just fine, Nikita had a burning desire to take charge and make her mark on the world while Pepper had no such interest, much preferring to watch what was happening. Of course, it was Nikita's idea that they leave home almost the same day they were legally allowed to do so ... granted, Pepper agreed rather quickly that the house they were living in had never really been a home and there was probably something better out there somewhere. Plus, who else was going to ensure that Nikita didn't kill herself along the way?
